RSA 365

Drawings of South African Architecture

Shaun Gaylard & Brett McDougall

In 2020 Shaun Gaylard set himself the challenge of drawing 365 South African buildings, bridges and towers – one drawing per day. RSA 365 is the culmination of this project, and provides unique insights into South Africa’s built heritage, from its earliest surviving buildings in 1666 to those completed in 2020.

Shaun has collaborated with Brett McDougall and local and international guest writers in telling the story of architecture in South Africa. In the 365 drawings that make up this body of work, a narrative of a rich, complex and fascinating built heritage emerges.

The book’s carefully crafted and beautifully executed drawings have been described as a valuable historical marker of the South African urban landscape, and will leave the reader with an appreciation of the important architectural legacy of South Africa.
